Taperstick - Patinated bronze - The griffon: 1890

Ostrich egg mounted on a hand-held candlestick in patinated bronze, with a griffin decoration, of neoclassical or mythological inspiration.
The natural ostrich egg, smooth, depicts a griffin, but during this period it could also depict a chimera.
This type of mid-19th-century piece, except for the egg, which is later, fits perfectly within the tradition of cabinets of curiosities.
It is stamped under the base.
Dimensions: 33 x 13 x 13 cm.
Weight: 1065 grams.
