Description from the seller
An original, hand-addressed folded envelope from the diplomatic correspondence of the first King of the Belgians, addressed to the Austrian Prime Minister Prince Felix of Schwarzenberg.
Leopold I. (1790–1865), King of the Belgians. --------------------------------------
The recipient was Felix Prince of Schwarzenberg (1800–1852), Austrian Prime Minister and one of the most significant statesmen of the Habsburg Monarchy during the revolutionary period of 1848/49. The connection between the Belgian royal house and the Vienna government was of considerable diplomatic importance in the European state system of the 19th century. The envelope documents this high-ranking correspondence in authentic form.
Especially appealing are the fully intact calligraphic addressee and the red sealing wax seal on the back. Even without the originally contained letter, the piece represents an attractive testament to the European monarchies of the Vormärz era and the early post-revolutionary period.
--------------------------------------
Overall, a very well-preserved folded envelope with a clean addressee and a well-preserved red sealing wax seal.
