Three-piece Art Déco vanity set in blue Guilloché enamel on 950‑silver with crystal, made in Paris by Victor Lauer, circa 1910.
Description from the seller
Art Deco dressing set in crystal, 950/1000 Minerva silver in octagonal form with blue Guilloché enamel, c.1910 by the renowned Parisian silversmith Victor Lauer.
Elegant dressing set consisting of three pieces: a rectangular crystal bottle with a silver stopper, a cylindrical crystal container with a silver cap, and a clothes brush. The three pieces are unified by a Guilloché enamel decoration in an intense light-blue color on French silver mounts stamped Minerve (950 thousandths). The set dates from approximately the 1910s, the Art Deco period, and is of French manufacture.
The containers are made of thick, high-quality cut crystal, with solid French silver mounts of standard 950/1000 (Minerva punch). The Guilloché enamel decorative technique involves mechanical engraving of radial concentric patterns on the silver surface, subsequently covered with translucent blue enamel layers that create the characteristic optical depth and movement effect. The brush has natural bristles in good condition. Estimated dimensions: rectangular bottle approx. 12x9x5 cm, cylindrical container approx. 10x8 cm diameter, brush approx. 16x5 cm.
The condition is good. The blue Guilloché enamel is intact with no visible losses on the three pieces, maintaining its intense color and shine. The brush shows a small loss visible in the photos where the enamel’s white area is affected. The crystal shows minor signs of use consistent with age but no cracks or significant chips. The bristles remain in generally good condition.
French dressing sets in Minerve silver with Guilloché enamel are highly valued by collectors of silverware and Art Deco objects. The quality of the enamel work, the purity of French silver (better than English sterling), and the integrity of the three-piece set from the renowned master silversmith Victor Lauer considerably increase its value. This type of sets were luxury items intended for the French haute bourgeoisie of the interwar period.
