Antique German mohair teddy bear attributed to Josef Pitrmann (JOPI), circa 1920–1930, height 54 cm, without original packaging, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Antique German mohair teddy bear – attributed to Josef Pitrmann (JOPI), ca. 1920–1930
Old fully jointed mohair teddy bear, probably German and from the interwar period.
The bear is solidly filled with wood wool and has old glass eyes, a pronounced long snout, large high-set ears, and noticeably long arms.
The original mohair color is pink/apricot. The coat is locally worn, appropriate to its age.
The paw and sole pads are made of light, velvety fabric and appear old/original. On the hands and feet there are three black embroidered claw marks. The nose and mouth are also embroidered.
The construction, head shape, large ears, glass eyes, body proportions, long arms, horizontally embroidered nose and the execution of the pads and claws show strong similarities with documented teddy bears by Josef Pitrmann (JOPI) from the 1920s/30s. Pink JOPI bears from this period are also documented.
There is no brand label or other factory mark remaining. Therefore I do not offer it as a securely identified JOPI, but as attributed to Josef Pitrmann/JOPI on the basis of construction and style features.
The bear is in authentically used condition with localized wear and loss of mohair. The photos are part of the description.
