Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
A pair of two pressed crystal cake stands, Val Saint Lambert Hambourg model, dating to circa 1910–1920 in the Art Deco period, made in Belgium, in excellent antique condition with minimal signs of wear.
Description from the seller
An attractive set of two antique crystal cake stands (cake platters on a footed stand) from the prestigious Belgian manufacturer Val Saint Lambert.
These platters belong to the iconic "Hambourg Service", designed under the artistic direction of Léon Ledru with the cooperation of the young Charles Graffart. The set is beautifully documented on Planche 14 of the famous Val Saint Lambert catalog from 1913 (see attached catalog image).
The design is executed in clear pressed glass (half-cut crystal) and is characterized by a refined geometric diamond pattern (pointes de diamant) that radiates in concentric circles. The wavy outer rim is beautifully finished with the characteristic glass pearls. The platters rest on an elegantly fluted (grooved) foot.
Thanks to the different diameters, the platters can be perfectly stacked to form a breathtaking Art Deco étagère/centerpiece for the festive table.
Period: 1913 (Early Art Deco / Late Art Nouveau)
Origin: Belgium
Model: Hambourg (Planche 14, Catalog 1913)
Condition: excellent antique condition. No chips, no restorations. Clear glass with minimal, normal signs of age (possible tiny production air bubbles or joining marks on the underside of the foot, inherent to the early pressed glass method).
The set will be securely packed and insured shipped to the winning bidder.
