Focal Chorus 605: in-house drivers
The strong point of the Focal Chorus 605 definitely lies in its drivers, specifically developed and manufactured by Focal. Thus you’ll find a 25 mm inverted-dome tweeter – a house specialty – made of aluminum and magnesium, mounted on a Poron suspension. This material ensures linear high-frequency rise with very little distortion, while the suspension provides a low resonance frequency, which eliminates hardness in the midrange. The 13 cm woofer handles the reproduction of mid and bass frequencies. Its Polyglass cone, being particularly rigid, gives it top-tier performance in the bass range, where a front-airflow bass-reflex port shoulders the speaker. This configuration also allows the Focal Chorus 605 to be placed in a bookshelf or very close to a wall, for example via its integrated mounting.

The Focal Chorus 605 may represent the entry-level product from the French manufacturer, but it is nonetheless crafted with great care, as evidenced by the cabinet thickness, reaching up to 25 mm. Thus, the enclosure offers low vibrational potential and generates very little distortion. Moreover, the walls of the Focal Chorus 605 are not parallel, to avoid detrimental rear-wall reflections and preserve the speaker’s behavior. The binding posts on the Focal Chorus 605 accept high-current cables, banana plugs, and provide substantial clamping torque.

The Focal Chorus 605 can be powered by modestly powered amplifiers, but it reveals its potential with amplifiers that have solid power supplies. With a frequency response limited to 65 Hz in the bass register, it can be paired with the Focal Cub Evo subwoofer, for example, to reproduce the lowest frequencies and enjoy an even more convincing hi-fi or home cinema experience.
