Monumental antique crystal compote on a high foot, model Hambourg, from Belgium, dating to the early Art Deco period (circa 1910–1920), made of pressed crystal, in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear, dimensions 19.7 cm in width and depth and 17.5 cm in height, weight 947 g, associated with Val Saint Lambert's Service Hambourg designed under Léon Ledru with Charles Graffart (Planche 14, Catalog 1913, number 3 of 8).
Description from the seller
Monumental antique crystal compote dish (fruit coupe on a high foot) from the prestigious Belgian manufacturer Val Saint Lambert.
This object belongs to the iconic "Service Hambourg", designed under the artistic direction of Léon Ledru with the collaboration of the young Charles Graffart. This bowl is beautifully documented as number 3 / 8 on Planche 14 of the famous Val Saint Lambert catalog from 1913 (see attached catalog image).
The design is executed in clear pressed glass (half-crystal) and stands out for its impressive height and depth. The bowl is characterized by a refined geometric diamond pattern (pointes de diamant) that fans out in concentric circles. The wavy outer rim is beautifully finished with the characteristic glass pearls. Very notable is how the geometric diamond-cut structure is elegantly carried through to deep inside the hollow, majestically fluted foot.
An absolute showpiece on the festive table or in a display cabinet.
Period: 1913 (Early Art Deco / Late Art Nouveau)
Origin: Belgium
Model: Hambourg (Planche 14, Catalog 1913 - model no. 3 / 8)
Condition: excellent antique condition. No chips, no restorations. Beautiful clear glass with minimal, normal signs of age (such as tiny production air bubbles or wipe marks on the underside, inherent to this early pressed glass method).
Your purchase will be securely packed and insured for shipping.
