Description from the seller

Pierre Lottier for Valmazán — Slipper Chair, Spain, 1954–1957

An exceptionally elegant and comfortable slipper chair, designed by Pierre Lottier and manufactured by Valmazán in Spain during the mid-1950s.

Dating from approximately 1954–1957, this striking chair is an excellent example of early Valmazán production. Its sculptural proportions, low seating position and upholstered back create a sophisticated silhouette combining mid-century modern, neo-classical and subtle Brutalist influences.

The chair features a beautifully crafted oak upholstered in its original thick red leather. The rich red leather contrasts beautifully with the warm natural tones of the wooden structure, while the original brass nail detailing adds a refined decorative element.

A particularly interesting feature is the early “first production” Valmazán maker's mark, executed in light script and accompanied by the MADE IN SPAIN stamp on the lower leg. This type of marking is an important identifying feature of early Valmazán furniture produced for export.

The chair is exceptionally comfortable, robust and well proportioned, with a generous seat and back that make it suitable as both a functional lounge chair and a striking decorative piece.

Condition

The chair is presented in good original vintage condition, with no known damage or repairs. There are only light signs of age and a few small marks consistent with careful use.

The original red leather remains thick, supple and remarkably well preserved, retaining its rich original colour without significant fading. The upholstery has developed only minimal signs of age and retains its elegant appearance.

The original brass nail detailing is also preserved.
