Natural Fluorescent Afghanite Rough Lot – Badakhshan, Afghanistan
This is a beautiful lot of Natural Afghanite Rough from the famous Badakhshan mines of Afghanistan, with a total weight of 51 grams comprising 37 individual pieces.
The lot displays an attractive natural light blue colour with very good transparency and excellent lustre. All pieces are transparent, with no opaque or translucent pieces in the lot. Most of the pieces are of good size and offer potential for both faceting and cabochon cutting.
One of the most appealing features of this lot is its strong fluorescence under UV light. The natural blue Afghanite changes to a noticeable yellow fluorescence under UV, as demonstrated in the photographs.
Afghanite is a relatively rare mineral, and specimens from Badakhshan, Afghanistan are particularly appreciated by mineral and gemstone collectors.
