Description from the seller
Louis XVI style fauteuil / armchair – patinated wood with cane weave (Cane / Canapé), France, 20th century
This elegant French armchair immediately catches the eye with its timeless, oval backrest and classically shaped armrests. It is a beautiful example of furniture craftsmanship in Louis XVI style.
The wooden frame is finished with an atmospheric light gray/creamy patina with a subtly weathered 'shabby chic' appearance, which beautifully accentuates the carving and the furniture's history. The chair rests on gracefully fluted (grooved), tapering legs with floral motifs above the front legs, typical for this style.
Both the seat and the backrest are fitted with fine, classic cane weaving (cannege). On the underside the piece bears an original stamp: "CICS - Made in France".
The chair is in a neat and sturdy antique/vintage condition with a beautiful patina. Thanks to its refined comfort and elegant size, this fauteuil is perfect as a stylish occasional chair in the living room, behind a desk or vanity, or as a atmospheric decorative accent in the bedroom.
IMPORTANT: Due to its size and the fragility of the canework, this lovely chair must be collected.
