Description from the seller
An original small vase by Emile Gallé. Made with the cameo glass technique. The main characteristics of Emile Gallé's technique are: Multilayer: The artist used several layers of colored glass (from two to five or more), stacking them to create a deep and complex background. Acid engraving: A design was applied to the glass with a special varnish, after which the piece was immersed in hydrofluoric acid. The acid eroded the unprotected areas, creating relief and exposing the underlying color layers. Engraving and polishing: After engraving, Gallé refined the details by hand using miniature chisels and abrasive wheels, achieving the most subtle nuances of light, shadow, and midtones. Inclusions and effects: Experimenting with chemistry, he added metal shavings, sheets, air bubbles, or irregular coloration to the mass to imitate the texture of living nature.
Manufactured roughly at the beginning of the 20th century in France, in perfect condition.
