Description from the seller
Ludwig Julius Heymann terrestrial globe, Leipzig, c. 1910
A fine German terrestrial globe by Ludwig Julius Heymann, produced by the Geographischer Verlag Ludwig Julius Heymann in Leipzig, probably dating from around 1910. The 19 cm globe bears the original inscription “ERDGLOBUS – 19 cm – Nach den neuesten Forschungen bearbeitet – LEIPZIG – LUDW. JUL. HEYMANN – Geographischer Verlag”. The Leipzig imprint places this example in the later phase of Heymann’s publishing activity, following the transfer of the business from Berlin to Leipzig around 1909. The globe retains its original turned wooden stand, with an elegant and richly profiled design and an attractive aged patina. The cartography is finely detailed and characteristic of German globes of the early 20th century. An appealing example for collectors of historical globes and German cartographic publishing, particularly interesting as an example of the Leipzig period of Ludwig Julius Heymann.
