Description from the seller
Samson Porcelain Plate – Compagnie des Indes / Famille Rose Style – France – 19th Century
Superb hard-part porcelain plate produced by the famous Samson manufactory (Paris), imitating to perfection the porcelain of the 18th-century Compagnie des Indes (Qianlong period).
Decor & Iconography: The central decoration is hand-painted with polychrome enamels in the Famille Rose palette, featuring a stylized pheasant perched on a railing beside a scholar’s rock (gongshi), surrounded by blooming peonies and bamboo. The wing is adorned with four scrolls of floral motifs and separated from the basin by a geometric grey lattice trim.
Technique & Finishes: Hard-pired porcelain with a slightly amber-tinted glaze, faithful to export Chinese productions. Enamels lightly reliefed and very well executed. Brown-gold edge trim on the rim.
Origin & Era: France, Paris, Samson House, second half of the 19th century (c. 1870–1890).
Attribution: Characteristic model of the Compagnie des Indes interpretations by Edmé Samson. The absence of a mark on the base is typical for pieces intended to replace or complete 18th-century services.
