Rare set of four model 684 “Piccola Tentazione” armchairs, designed by Mario Bellini for Cassina in 1973.

Conceived as an alternative to traditional chairs with rigid construction and upright seating, the 684 fully represents Mario Bellini’s research into the relationship between structure, padding and upholstery. The result is a soft and enveloping armchair conceived as a continuous volume, covered in leather that is free to fold and adapt to the underlying structure.

The soft natural ivory-coloured leather fully envelops each armchair, creating folds, tensions and draped surfaces that define its sculptural character. The high backrest extends laterally into two armrests, while the deep and generously padded seat provides a particularly welcoming degree of comfort.

The seams follow the geometry of the structure without making its appearance rigid, creating the informal yet sophisticated softness characteristic of 1970s Italian design. Viewed from the rear, the armchairs retain a clean and fully upholstered profile, allowing them to be positioned freely even in the centre of a room.

Each armchair rests on four fixed feet, discreetly positioned and almost entirely concealed by the upholstery. This solution raises the chair slightly from the floor without interrupting its soft and continuous profile.

The chairs may be used around a dining table, in a conversation area, in a study or as individual seating within a living room.
