A fine chalcedony/agate 'sage and acolyte' snuff bottle. ​Of flattened ovoid form with a cylindrical neck, flat lip, and an oval foot ring. The translucent honey-colored stone is very well hollowed and makes clever use of the dark brown russet skin, depicting a scene of a sage and acolyte amidst a rocky mountain landscape under a pine tree. With a matching agate stopper. China, late Qing dynasty to Republic period (c. 1880–1930)
