Description from the seller

Japy Frères – French Gilt Metal Cartel Wall Clock – France – late 19th Century
A decorative French cartel wall clock by Japy Frères, dating from the 19th century.
The case is made of gilt metal, most likely brass or a brass-based alloy, and is richly decorated with scrolling foliage, flowers and rococo-style ornament. The overall form is elegant and very decorative, with an openwork lower section and asymmetrical floral details around the dial.
The white enamel dial has black Arabic numerals, gilt minute markers and finely decorated gilt hands. The dial is protected by a convex glass door with a brass-coloured bezel.
The movement is signed Japy Frères & Cie, Grande Médaille d’Honneur and bears the number 57556. It is a mechanical movement with striking mechanism. The clock strikes the full hours in the correct number and once on the half hour.
The clock is in very good overall condition. The case has no significant damage and shows only small traces of age and use, consistent with an antique object. The movement works very well and the striking mechanism functions correctly.

Dimensions are approximately 50 cm high, 30 cm wide and 11 cm deep.
A winding key is included.

As with any antique mechanical clock, careful levelling and minor adjustment may be required after transport.
