Description from the seller
A coherent collection of three original Japanese B2 theatrical movie posters devoted to international thrillers and wartime adventure from the 1970s.
The set brings together major international actors including Roger Moore, Telly Savalas, David Niven, Jon Voight, Maximilian Schell, Oliver Reed and Samantha Eggar. Each poster features a distinctive Japanese design created for the film’s original theatrical release in Japan.
THE COLLECTION
1. Escape to Athena / Offside 7 – 1979
Original Japanese B2 poster for George P. Cosmatos’ Second World War adventure.
Starring Roger Moore, Telly Savalas, David Niven, Stefanie Powers, Claudia Cardinale, Elliott Gould, Richard Roundtree and Sonny Bono.
The Japanese release used the alternative title “Offside 7”. The poster features a spectacular ensemble composition combining the principal actors, wartime imagery, soldiers and underwater scenes.
Distributor: Toho-Towa.
2. The Odessa File – 1974
Original Japanese B2 poster for the political conspiracy thriller directed by Ronald Neame and adapted from Frederick Forsyth’s bestselling novel.
Starring Jon Voight, Maximilian Schell, Maria Schell and Mary Tamm.
The striking Japanese artwork combines the shadowy central figure, a large pistol, cars and dramatic historical imagery, perfectly reflecting the film’s story of a journalist investigating a secret network of former Nazi officers.
3. The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun – 1970
Original Japanese B2 poster for Anatole Litvak’s stylish psychological road thriller, adapted from the novel by Sébastien Japrisot.
Starring Samantha Eggar, Oliver Reed and John McEnery.
A particularly graphic Japanese design dominated by the bonnet of a bright yellow car, giving the poster a highly decorative and unmistakably 1970s appearance.
