This is the November 1985 special issue of the music magazine “FOOL'S MATE,” founded in 1977 by Masashi Kitamura, a member of the rock band YBO². A unique magazine introducing Western and Japanese bands across genres like progressive rock, new wave, alternative, noise, and indie, Fool's Mate captivated core music fans by covering everything from major to minor labels far and wide. New print issues ceased with issue 376 in 2012, though content continues to be distributed via online channels and other platforms. This special edition volume is composed entirely of artist portraits from the subculture music scene of the 70s and 80s. Featuring British band Psychic TV on the cover, it includes 136 bands such as U2, The Style Council, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, Aztec Camera, Strawberry Switchblade, and Hanatarashi. It also contains a text portrait of William Burroughs, a representative writer of the Beat Generation.
