Description from the seller

Kienzle Electronic Ceramic Clock – German Pop / Space Age Design – 1970s

A striking and highly decorative Kienzle electronic table clock from the 1970s, combining unmistakable German design with the bold colour language and sculptural experimentation of the Pop and Space Age era.
The clock is housed in an unusual amphora-inspired ceramic body, with two circular side handles and a tall neck, giving it the appearance of a small piece of studio pottery rather than a conventional timepiece. The ceramic has a rich dark brown / aubergine glaze with subtle blue speckling, contrasting dramatically with the vivid orange dial.

The dial is pure 1970s design: saturated orange, strongly graphic black hour markers and hands, and the original “KIENZLE electronic” signature. The combination of warm earthy ceramic and intense Pop orange makes this an exceptionally eye-catching decorative object.

Kienzle was one of Germany’s best-known clock manufacturers, and this model is a particularly attractive example of the period when traditional clockmaking met the adventurous forms, colours and materials of post-war modern design.

The rear opening reveals the electronic movement and also shows how the ceramic case itself forms the substantial sculptural body of the clock.

Highlights:
- Original vintage early Kienzle electronic clockwork
- Germany, 1970s
- Sculptural glazed ceramic case
- Amphora / vase-inspired form
- Fabulous original bright orange dial
- Brown glaze with attractive blue speckled accents
- Strong Pop Design / Space Age / 1970s Modernist character
- Highly decorative even when not used as a clock
- Excellent statement piece for a Mid-Century Modern, Space Age or 1970s interior

The clock comes with two new, high-quality Panasonic zinc-carbon batteries, so the new owner can enjoy it immediately upon arrival – simply insert the batteries and the fun can begin.

A wonderful and increasingly difficult-to-find piece of 1970s German design, sitting somewhere between functional object, clock, ceramic sculpture and Pop Art interior accessory.

Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and show the condition, glaze, dial, movement and overall appearance in detail.
