A hand-made Indonesian Djokja-style oval silver presentation fruit bowl in Kotagede Java, crafted in mid-20th century, weighing 248 g of solid 0.800 silver with removable silver-plated legs and a total weight of 288 g.
Description from the seller
Offered is a stunning, handmade antique silver presentation/fruit bowl in the distinctive Indonesian Djokja (Yogyakarta) style. This oval bowl was crafted in Kotagede (Java) during the blooming period of Djokja silverwork (mid-20th century).
The bowl is masterfully worked with a rich, floral relief decoration of lotus blossoms and fine-leaved tendrils along the undulating rim. The recessed base features a beautiful and subtle hand-hammered hammer-mark motif.
Maker marks and maker:
The bowl is fitted on the underside/edge with an original solder plate bearing the official stamps:
• 800: Indicates the guaranteed fineness of silver (.800)
• MD: The sought-after master mark of the renowned top-silver-smith Moeljodihardjo.
• JOGJA SILVER: Indication of origin (Yogyakarta)
Feet and construction:
What is distinctive about this piece is that the bowl rests on removable feet with screws. To prevent wear on the screw thread and to provide structural solidity, these feet were, at the time (as is common with this specific model), made in high-quality silver-plated material.
Weight specifications (fully transparent):
• Net silver weight (without feet): 248 grams of solid .800 silver.
• Total gross weight (including silver-plated feet): 288 grams
Condition:
The bowl is in very nice, shining condition with minimal, normal signs of age for its age. The screw-thread on the feet functions properly. Please examine the detail photos closely for your own impression of the craftsmanship.
Carefully packed and shipped by registered mail/insured.
