AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A magnificent and authentic patinated bronze cassolette (covered decorative cup or fragrance burner) dating from the Second Empire / Napoleon III period (circa 1860-1880). This superb interior décor piece perfectly embodies the Neo-Grec fashion of the second half of the 19th century: a central body adorned with a relief medallion depicting a finely chiseled antique profile (emperor Roman type or philosopher). The medallion is richly framed by geometric volutes and outlined by a ribbon knot and scrolling foliage. The whole rests on an elegant circular mold-turned pedestal. The removable lid is sculpted with a geometric rose and surmounted by a tall pyramidal finial for grasping. Two large elaborately worked side handles complete its classical silhouette. Condition: A sound and complete piece “in its original state,” presenting a very beautiful dark original patina and authentic aging that testify to its 150 years of age. No structural flaw or crack.
