Description from the seller
Very beautiful and highly sought-after eighteenth-century changer’s balance, used by master goldsmiths when purchasing gold or silver coins to estimate their weight.
Handcrafted by the old Lasserre establishments that produced balances for foreign use, notably this one for Spain, hence its series of square monetary weights marked with the value of the period for calibration.
On the lid, a table of currencies for estimation or equivalence for gold or silver coins.
Various weights, including a double ducat, stamped with a laurel-emblazoned coat of arms and engraved Spagna doffie emblem of the crown, and various division-slabs also engraved.
Casket in carved wood, hollowed from the solid, for storing the pestle with the two copper trays supported by fine wires.
Two hooks for closing.
Incomplete case but can be completed by searching on appropriate sites.
Very rare object, even the photos speak for themselves.
Collectible item or beautiful decor with guaranteed impact.
Fast, careful shipping with tracking and insurance.
