AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Elegant and rare polychrome and gilt porcelain pot-pourri, made by the prestigious Nyon Porcelain Factory around 1780, during one of the most refined periods of Swiss production in the 18th century.

Of great decorative richness, this Rococo/Louis XV style piece rests on a sculpted pedestal with volutes and features an ovoid body animated with gallant and pastoral scenes, figures in landscapes, polychrome flowers, and numerous gilded highlights.

The decoration is distinguished by a blue ground with scale motifs, finely painted reserves framed in gilding, and an ornamental vocabulary typically Rocaille, directly inspired by the European aristocratic taste of the second half of the 18th century.

The domed and delicately lattice-openwork lid was designed to allow the diffusion of fragrances contained in the vessel. It is hinged by an old metal hinge and surmounted by an elegant gilded vegetal handle.

Under the base lies the mark of a fish painted in blue under glaze, characteristic of the Nyon Manufacture.

In its intimate size, the richness of its figurative decoration, the complexity of its form and its function as a pot-pourri, this object constitutes a particularly decorative and uncommon collectible piece, representative of the refinement of Swiss table arts and luxury objects of the 18th century.
