Peninsular Insurance billboard – Peninsular Insurance Company, Madrid - Enamel plate - Enamel, Brass

Original octagonal advertising sign for an insurance company, made of enameled metal sheet and corresponding to the Peninsular – Sociedad Anónima de Seguros, Madrid. The piece shows a highly impactful graphic composition, with red relief typography on a cream background and a map of Spain highlighted in red with the name “PENINSULAR” diagonally.

The design is completed with the perimeter inscription: “Sociedad Anónima de Seguros – Madrid”, framing the peninsular map. The piece retains the original fixing holes at several points along the edge, indicating its use as a façade plaque for a building, office, agency, or insured establishment. Insurance company plaques were installed in visible places to identify properties, businesses, or agents linked to the entity and today they constitute a valued field of advertising collecting and business history.

Approximate dating: Spain, 1920s–1930s.
Material: enameled metal sheet.
Dimensions: approximately 22.5 x 22.5 cm.
Subject: Peninsular insurance company, with headquarters or reference in Madrid.

Condition: shows wear, scratches, enamel loss, stains, rust or superficial abrasion, and signs of outdoor use, especially in the central and lower parts of the map. These flaws do not detract from the piece, but rather reinforce its authentic character and period patina. The typography and overall design remain perfectly legible. Photographs are an essential part of the description and should be examined carefully before bidding.

Interesting item for collectors of enamel signs, vintage advertising, the history of insurance, Spanish graphic design, and industrial or retro décor.
