Description from the seller

Louis-Albert CARVIN (1875-1951)
Group of two elephants, Art Deco sculpture.

Animal Art Deco sculpture representing two elephants, one adult and one younger (metal with bronze and green patina) walking side by side, trunk raised.

Sits on a rectangular marble base in orange and green tones, characteristic of the decorative repertoire of the 1920s–1930s.

Signed "Carvin" on the marble base.

Dimensions: H. 19 cm — L. 47 cm

Condition: good overall, in keeping with the piece’s age (patina and wear from use; slight marble wear, see my photos).

This composition, in the animalier spirit so prized by Art Deco, illustrates the era’s taste for scenes of exotic fauna, treated with a sense of movement and stylization characteristic of that period. The contrast between the sobriety of the metal and the polychromy of the marble lends the piece discreet elegance, particularly suited to contemporary decoration.

A collectible piece, representative of the decorative taste of the Roaring Twenties.
