Photographic album titled High society... 1840-70, Photos de Bingham by Famille Malvezzi, EO edition in French, dating from circa 1850, containing 30 pages in a 23 cm by 15 cm format and signed.
Description from the seller
1840 - 1870. Fascinating album, with initials (G.M.) at the front and with bindings containing 59 photographs, notably of Robert Jefferson Bingham and other renowned photographers, using mainly the following techniques: albumen print on paper from a glass negative, glued onto cardboard, albumen print on paper.
The subjects belong to high society.
It is the Malvezzi family, the Italian minister Minghetti...
Here is the French minister Victor Lefranc... here is Jean Antoine de Mongis next to a truncated column and numerous countesses and baronesses….
All of them are perfect in their carefully styled outfits, extravagant toilettes, posing for eternity in a refined setting by the great photographer at the heart of the studio… Fortunately, almost all the subjects have their names written below their portrait, indicated by an era’s handwriting.
A piece of a museum. Rare.
Album 23 × 15 cm with a golden edge, very beautiful leather-bound relief cardboard binding, almost complete (one photo is missing). 15 cardboard leaves with 2 photo niches for the format 9.7 × 6.4 cm.
Good condition but some tears due to handling of the photos.
Yellowing and traces of time. One page with rust stains.
Binding in good condition but one clasp is missing at the back. Two metal clasps are missing.
The photos are almost all in perfect condition.
