One massive 100 mm diameter sphere of Pink Sakura Flower Agate with crystal druzy geode cavities, weighing 1275 g, originating from Madagascar.
Description from the seller
Large-Format Sample from Madagascar — This lot features a massive, visually striking sphere carved from a single block of Flower Agate, a precious variety of chalcedony sourced from Madagascar. With a perfect diameter of 100 mm and a substantial weight of 1275 grams, the specimen stands out not only for its size but also for the extraordinary complexity of its internal world. The surface, worked and polished to a masterful finish, reveals an universe of inclusions and colors, interrupted by fascinating natural cavities that open like small geodes, showing the mineral’s internal crystalline structure. Careful observation of the sphere reveals a rich, warm color palette. The internal motifs, which justify the poetic names “Flower Agate” or “Sakura,” float within a translucent chalcedony matrix in gray-blue tones. These three-dimensional inclusions take the shape of “flowers” or “feathers,” ranging from pale pink to deep brick red, creating an effect of petals suspended in time. The vitreous luster of the surface magnificently contrasts with the opaque, glittering interior of the geode cavities, whose walls are adorned with a fine druse of microcrystals of quartz that shine intensely when illuminated. From a geological standpoint, Flower Agate results from a slow silica deposition process in cavities (vesicles) within ancient volcanic rocks. Over millions of years, mineral-rich fluids filled these voids layer by layer. The “bloom” features are inclusions of other minerals, probably iron oxides and other silicates, trapped during chalcedony growth, drawing these unique patterns. The cavities visible on the surface are not imperfections, but authentic evidence of the formation process: portions of the original vesicle not completely filled, where quartz had space to develop its crystal faces. The spherical form is a classic choice in lapidary work, ideal for highlighting the intrinsic beauty of a mineral, allowing every detail to be explored by rotating it in the hands or on an appropriate stand. The size and weight of this specimen make it a premier display piece, capable of drawing attention in any setting, from a classically inspired Wunderkammer to a contemporary design environment. The presence of open, crystallized geodes inside a polished sphere is a particularly sought-after feature among collectors, as it combines the perfection of human workmanship with nature’s raw, wild beauty. Ultimately, this Flower Agate sphere is an object that speaks on multiple levels: a fragment of geological history, a lapidary artwork, and a decor element of rare elegance. Its surface tells a story of stillness and slowness, while its open geodes reveal the crystal energy hidden within. A piece that invites contemplation, a small geological world enclosed in a perfect form, whose beauty lies precisely in the harmony between solid, polished mass and the sparkling voids that interrupt its continuity, making it a unique and fascinating specimen.
