Extra info
Esperanto is an international auxiliary language developed to promote communication and peace between countries; this coin reflects the idea of one world, one language, one system.
This "official" currency of Esperantists was minted at the Royal Mint under Mint Master Dr. J.W.A. van Hengel in 1960 as a fictitious means of payment at Esperanto Congresses.
It was the Universal League that created the star. On 14 April 1942, exactly 25 years after his death, L.L. Zamenhof was privately commemorated in a Den Haag residence by a group of loyal Esperantists. The group already had experience with the tyranny of the occupation (Esperantists were persecuted) and wanted to do something concrete to prevent humanity from a 'world catastrophe.' After discussions they decided to establish a world organization named Universala Ligo (UL) with the main goal of carrying out Zamenhof’s original program, namely uniting humanity with one common lingua franca.
