Description from the seller

Martin & Hall & Co. Sheffield – Silver-Plated Serving Cloche / Food Dome

England, late 19th – early 20th century (circa 1890–1910)

An elegant English silver-plated serving cloche by the renowned Sheffield silversmith Martin, Hall & Co., a respected manufacturer celebrated for its high-quality tableware during the Victorian and Edwardian periods.

Originally intended to keep meals warm while serving, this beautifully shaped oval dome has become equally desirable today as a refined decorative centrepiece. It is ideal for creating an elegant dining table, displaying cheeses, pastries or seasonal arrangements, and perfectly complements both classic and contemporary interiors.

The dome features a charming naturalistic finial in the form of leaves and fruit. The finial appears to have been professionally replaced at some point during its lifetime, adding to the object's authentic history without affecting its functionality. The underside bears the original Martin, Hall & Co. Sheffield marks.

The silver plating retains a beautiful warm patina. The cloche remains in good antique condition with normal signs of age and careful use, including light surface scratches and two very small shallow dents, visible on close inspection. These honest traces of time are consistent with its age and contribute to its authentic character.

A timeless English table accessory, equally suitable for collectors of antique silver plate, interior decorators and festive table settings.
