Description from the seller
HIGHLIGHTS:
• Rare remaining Ariès CC4S Saloon from 1925
• Unique lightweight Weymann body by Audineau (fabric over a wooden frame)
• 1,130 cc four-cylinder engine with overhead cam and dual ignition (8 spark plugs, up to 55 hp)
• Fully restored including new woven cotton wiring and Art Deco interior details
HISTORY & OVERVIEW:
Ariès was founded in 1902 in Villeneuve de La Garenne by Baron Charles Petiet. After initially building luxury automobiles and later commercial vehicles, the brand entered motorsport in the 1920s. The technology employed was very advanced for its time, including engines with an overhead camshaft that were also used during the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
This particular example is an Ariès CC4S Saloon from 1925 and is, as far as is known, the only remaining example with this specific lightweight Audineau bodywork, built to the Weymann principle (fabric over a lightweight wooden frame). The car was originally purchased in France by an Italian enthusiast who started the restoration, after which the car, through a Dutch collector, was ultimately fully restored by the current owner. The chassis has been shot-blasted and painted, the woodwork carefully checked and repaired, and the vehicle completely reupholstered. The car has over 34,000 km of proven reliability, starts and drives, but still requires a light fine-tuning.
CARROSSERIE & PAINT:
The car features a special Weymann-type body by Audineau, consisting of fabric upholstery over a lightweight wooden frame. During restoration the chassis was fully shot-blasted and painted. The wooden frame was carefully checked and repaired where necessary. The bodywork has been completely reupholstered and is in very beautiful condition after restoration.
INTERIOR:
The interior is fully renewed and houses stunning, original Art Deco details, including authentic trim bands, ribbons and tassels. The entire electrical installation has been renewed using single-core cotton-wrapped wiring to preserve the period-correct and authentic look.
ENGINE & TECHNICAL:
The car is powered by a 1,130 cc four-cylinder engine with an overhead camshaft and magneto ignition (engine number T 3075 / T 1884). The engine accommodates 8 spark plugs for a dual ignition per cylinder, allowing power to range from 40 hp (with 4 plugs) to about 55 hp. The engine has been fully dismantled, thoroughly inspected and rebuilt. The vehicle runs and operates, but requires a light adjustment to run optimally.
DOCUMENTS:
Registration documents are present (chassis number D 3060).
The vehicle can be viewed and collected. Bids are exclusive of transport and export, unless otherwise stated. Arranging transport, transfer of ownership and any export documents/COC costs is the responsibility of the buyer.

Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
