Description from the seller
A beautiful classic and an absolute eye-catcher for any Conchology collection.
The Cypraea cribraria (scientifically recognized as Cribrarula cribraria) owes its name “Sieve Cowrie” to the unmistakable, spectacular shell design. The intensely red-brown to camel-coloured back is dotted with numerous sharply delineated white ocelli, giving the snail its characteristic, beaded pattern. At an above-average size for this species of 37 mm, this piece captivates with a perfectly preserved, high-gloss enamel layer and a flawlessly snowy white base.
Origin
This authentic collector’s piece comes from the coral-rich waters around Mactan Island (Cebu, Philippines). The region is renowned among conchologists worldwide for its high marine biodiversity and the excellent quality and color saturation of the cowries found there.
