Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Ancient to medieval bronze ring with a geometrically engraved bezel, dating to ca. 6th–14th century AD, made of a copper alloy with a broad shank, an oval engraved plate, about 23 mm high, inner diameter ~19 mm, weight 6.32 g, with a dark patina and visible wear.
Description from the seller
Ancient to medieval copper-alloy finger ring, likely bronze, with a stout shank and an oval, fully engraved plaque.
The front displays a pronounced geometric motif of symmetrically arranged, curved and V-shaped lines. The decoration is continued on the widened shoulders of the ring by several parallel groove lines, creating a closed ornamental overall image.
The original meaning of the motif cannot be definitively determined without a secure find context. It may be purely decorative, or have originally symbolic function.
Form, construction and ornamentation point to an older piece. A more precise cultural attribution based on the ring alone is not secured. A cautious dating to late antiquity into the medieval period, roughly 6th–14th century AD, seems reasonable.
The surface shows a pronounced, age-related dark brown to greenish patina with corrosion and wear. The engraved lines on the plaque and on the ring shoulders remain clearly visible.
