Descriptions:

This coin commemorates the Sede Vacante, the period between the end of a papacy and the election of a new Pope. In the center is depicted the coat of arms of Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, responsible for managing the Holy See's goods during the interregnum. Surmounted by the umbraculum and the crossed keys, symbols of papal authority in awaiting the new Pontiff, the coat of arms recalls the solemnity and continuity of the Church. In the crown the dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit, invoked to guide the cardinals in discerning God's will for the election of the new Pope. The coin pays homage to the Camerlengo's role in the most delicate moments of ecclesial life.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Guglielmo Marconi with two coins that aim to crystallize significant moments in the life of this illustrious scientist, emblematic figure of the history of telecommunications and Nobel Prize in Physics in 1909: the 2 euro bimetallic coin in prooflike and proof versions, and the 25 euro silver-colored coin in proof background. For the 2 euro coin, produced in the two FDC and PROOF versions, the artist Loredana Pancotto draws inspiration from a famous photograph, taken on February 12, 1931, a historic date of the inauguration of Vatican Radio. In the image Guglielmo Marconi appears beside Pope Pius XI and Secretary of State Eugenio Pacelli, future Pope Pius XII. Below we report the historic words of the first message transmitted by Vatican Radio and spoken by Marconi himself: "I have the high honor to announce that in a few moments the Supreme Pontiff Pius XI will inaugurate the Radio Station of the State of Vatican City. The electric waves will carry around the world, through space, his word of peace and blessing...".
