Roman–Late Roman bronze ring with a raised oval bezel and decorated shoulders, dating to the 2nd–4th century AD, weight 7.87 g, height 30 mm, inner diameter about 20 mm.
Description from the seller
Roman to late Roman bronze finger ring with a markedly raised oval ring head and a sculpted shoulder area. Due to its construction and form, the piece can be typologically classified within the Roman to late Roman ring tradition, approximately 2nd–4th century AD.
Particularly striking is the tall ring head with a small oval, today largely smooth or heavily worn display face. On both sides, robustly modeled and partially ornamental shoulder sections adjoin, which then transition into the noticeably slimmer ring shank. This pronounced head-shoulder construction gives the ring an unusual and distinctive silhouette.
The design shows parallels with developed Roman ring forms featuring an elevated oval head and accented shoulders, as they occur especially during the middle and later Roman imperial periods.
The ring possesses a pronounced dark green to green-brown patina with corrosion products, deposits, and age-related wear. In particular, green patina areas are preserved in the recesses of the shoulder parts.
