Description from the seller
20th-century samovar in sterling silver 925 thousandths with numerous engravings across the surface of the vessel, with two repoussé handles and mounted on a base with four claw feet. The samovar features a highly ornate spigot with a fold-down handle in perfect working order. On the body of the samovar is engraved a heraldic crest with an arm wielding a raised sword and the motto: Fortis fortuna adiuvat (Fortune favors the bold), which references the chivalric heraldry of the nineteenth century. Also on the central body of the vessel are two engravings of the faces of two animals, one on each side. The samovar comes from a personal commission to the prestigious Garrido metalworks and was made as a one-off piece designed in the Victorian style of the 19th century. The lid is also repoussé with vents to ventilate the interior and is independent from the body of the vessel.
The samovar is in perfect condition, with no dents or scratches. It has a small pore in the handle of the right grip, imperceptible to the eye, but it drips slightly if the vessel is filled with liquid. Dimensions: 40x30x29 cm. Weight: 3.2 kg. Vessel volume: 3 liters.
By semi-quantitative X-ray fluorescence analysis, the materials of the samovar were determined, yielding a composition of 93% silver, 6.5% copper, 0.4% iron and 0.1% chromium.
