Persia, Kingdom of Elymais.
Orodes II (c. 100–150 AD).
Drachm (Bronze, 15 mm, 3.47 g).
Obv: Diademed and draped bust facing slightly left, wearing a tall tiara and long beard; pellet-in-crescent above inverted anchor to right.
Rev: Elongated pellets or dashes arranged in a semi-regular pattern, sometimes surrounding an inverted anchor.
Reference: van’t Haaff, Catalogue of Elymaean Coinage, Type 13.3.
Orodes II (c. 100–150 AD) ruled Elymais in southwestern Persia during the Parthian period. The kingdom remained semi-independent under Arsacid influence, centered on Susa and the surrounding lowlands of Khuzestan. Orodes’ coinage preserves distinctive Elymaean symbols such as the anchor, crescent and local divine imagery, reflecting a regional identity that endured between the Parthian and Sasanian worlds.
