Anatolian Beyliks, Eretnids
‘Ali Beg (1366–1380 AD).
Akçe (Silver, 21 mm, 1.61-1.62 g). Lot of 2.
Obv: Within octofoil: السلطان الأعظم علاء الدنيا والدين خلد الله ملكه / ضرب [دار الضرب] سنة [التاريخ]. The letters لله within الله are enclosed in an eye-shaped frame incorporated into the die. “The Supreme Sultan, Exaltation of the World and the Faith. May Allah perpetuate his kingdom / Struck at [mint] in the year [date].”
Rev: Within a plain square inside a lobated square: لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله / in the surrounding lobes: أبو بكر / عمر / عثمان / علي. “There is no god but Allah. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah / Abu Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthman and ʿAli.”

ʿAli Beg ruled the Eretnid Sultanate in central and eastern Anatolia during a period of growing fragmentation. He inherited the throne as a teenager, while powerful emirs exercised increasing autonomy. The Karamanids temporarily captured Kayseri, and the statesman Qadi Burhan al-Din rose to dominance. ʿAli died of plague during a campaign in 1380, shortly before the Eretnid dynasty collapsed.
