Description from the seller
Elegant and rare porcelain biscuit bust depicting the face of the Virgin Mary, directly inspired by the Renaissance masterwork, Michelangelo's Pietà (St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican). It preserves the delicacy of the Madonna's features, the eyes lowered in a sign of contemplation, as well as the superb drape of her veil. The piece is made of porcelain biscuit (matte white porcelain, unglazed), offering a silky texture and a visual rendering of great purity, very close to Carrara marble. Precise dating: 1911 (engraved mention on the original mold) Presence of a raised circular stamp on the back with a central intertwined monogram (stylized letters) and the edition/mold number "1911"
