Description from the seller
Marmaca San Marino - Vintage ceramic figural decanter / liquor bottle 'Military Officer' - A. Cesarini & F.o - 1957
Description
A characteristic, hand-painted ceramic figurative decanter / liquor bottle in the form of a 19th-century military officer in ceremonial parade uniform, including epaulettes, saber and double-breasted hat. The head and shoulders form the removable cap, beneath which sits the original pouring neck with cork stopper.
Manufacturer & Origin
Made by the famous ceramic studio Marmaca in the Republic of San Marino. The bottle was produced for the Italian liqueur distributor A. Cesarini & F.o (Gualdicciolo, Rep. S. Marino). The underside bears the hand-painted Marmaca mark and the original factory and tax sticker. On the side of the base there is also a dated label with the inscription "San Marino. 11 June 1957".
Contents & Use
Originally this bottle contained a traditional Italian herbal liqueur or brandy (37% alcohol / 0.500 liters). The bottle currently feels empty (the contents have evaporated or been consumed over the decades), which makes it ideal for safe storage and shipping.
Style & Material
Hand-painted Italian majolica / faience ceramic in Mid-Century Modern / Retro Souvenir style from 1957.
Rarity & Other Variants
These bottles are rare, especially in this complete condition with the original cap, cork, and labels. Marmaca released a limited series of figural decanters in the 1950s and 1960s. There are similar versions in other military uniforms and historical figures, making them highly sought after by collectors.
