Description from the seller

Large Caravaca reliquary cross in silver, of Spanish origin or Hispano-colonial - 18th century

Beautiful double-armed cross, richly worked and adorned on the front with a crucified Christ surmounted by the titulus INRI. The lower part features a representation of the Virgin, framed by two angelic figures in strong relief.

The crossbars and the lower part include several small lozenge-shaped reliquary compartments (no relics present).

The reverse is also entirely decorated with religious scenes and figures in relief, bearing witness to the rich iconography of this devotional cross.

The whole piece is finely chased and engraved with geometric motifs, with twisted borders. An old articulated bail allows its suspension.

Presence of old hallmarks on the reverse, today partially rubbed and not permitting a definite attribution to a specific goldsmith.

Condition: good overall with wear, scratches, oxidation and signs of use consistent with its age.

The photos are an integral part of the object description and complement the presentation. They allow one to appreciate its condition and characteristics. Please examine them carefully before any engagement.

The object will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number to guarantee fast and secure delivery.

Happy bidding
