Two Joufflue jugs in fine faience by Utzschneider & Cie, Sarreguemines, circa 1880–1900; each jug is 14 cm high and 19 cm in diameter, rose floral decor, condition: good with minor wear and age-related marks.
Description from the seller
Set of 2 plump jugs in fine faience, the JARDINIÈRE model by Utzschneider & Co. of Sarreguemines, circa 1880-1900.
Dimensions: H. 14 cm x Ø 19 cm for each jug.
Material: Fine faience / iron-rich earthenware, glossy glaze.
Marks on the base:
Printed mark JARDINIERE U and C SARREGUEMINES in a flowered crown (blue on one, pink on the other).
Hollow mark G2: G = plump form, 2 = mold variant. Proof of authentic early period.
Hand-painted worker initials: F on the blue jug and T on the pink jug. These are kiln marks for quality control in the firing process. Two different letters = two different workers from the same kiln, dating 1890-1900.
Condition: Perfect condition. No glaze loss, no chips, no cracks, no restoration. Normal crazing. Vivid decoration.
Decoration: Large peony flowers, highly sought after in shabby chic décor. The pink color is much rarer than blue.
