Antique silver-plated crumb scoop set from 1910–1920, designed by Parisian silversmith Denis Gérard in Art Nouveau style, comprising a crumb tin and a matching scraper, with overall dimensions 20 cm x 20 cm, height 3 cm and weight 421 g.
Description from the seller
Beautiful antique silver-plated crumb scoop consisting of a crumb box and a matching crumb scraper.
A design by the Parisian silversmith Denis Gérard, based at 104 rue du Temple in Paris. The silversmith house was active from around 1912 and was regarded as the official successor to the even older silversmith house Ancien Maison Marchand (founded in 1852).
Decorated in the graceful French Art Nouveau style, recognizable by the organic motifs such as acanthus leaves and floral details.
This kind of luxury table accessory was widely used from the late 19th century to the early 20th century in wealthier households and chic restaurants. After the bread course, the staff used this to gently sweep crumbs from the tablecloth before dessert was served.
Equipped with master mark “D - Une Main - G” and the inscription "Res Non Verba" - "Deeds, not words" which was the motto of this silversmith.
Length is 20 cm.
Width is 20 cm.
Weight is 421.0 grams.
After decades of careful collecting I have decided to part with (part of) my collection. I wish these special objects to find a place with a new enthusiast who understands the value of historical preservation. It is time these pieces receive the attention they deserve, so they are preserved for the distant future as well.
I ensure extremely careful packaging and insured shipping.
