Beautiful bird’s-eye view of the fortress "Spanish" of Portolongone on the island of Elba, theater of fierce clashes between the French and the Spanish, but also between England and Holland, in that State of the Presidios desired by Philip II of Spain to control maritime traffic toward the south.
Etching and engraving on laid paper, watermark-less, verso blank, sporadic traces of oxidation, margins sufficient, fine inking underscored by the delicately modern pastel coloring.
