The Bamouns (or Bamoum) are a Central African people mainly settled in the western part of Cameroon, in the historical Grassfields region. Renowned for their rich artistic, political, and intellectual traditions, they form one of the oldest and best-preserved dynasties on the African continent.
The Bamoun Kingdom was founded at the end of the 14th century (around 1384) by Prince Nchare Yen, from the Tikar dynasty.
The capital: Foumban is the beating heart of the kingdom, famous for its imposing Royal Palace.
A secular dynasty: the kingdom has maintained its unity and monarchic structure through the centuries. The ruler (today bearing the title Sultan) still enjoys a highly respected moral and customary authority.
Dispersion of my personal collection and my late father Mr. Germain BERTHEL’s private collection (1920 - 1998) dating from the 1950s.
Original vintage material, sold as is and having undergone no restoration.
Fast and careful shipment via Colissimo La Poste, registered with signature and insurance.
