Descriptions:
The latest divisionary series of Pope Francis’ pontificate, produced shortly before his passing, encloses extraordinary symbolic value. This collection now more than ever takes on a highly commemorative significance: a tangible tribute to His memory, destined to endure over time. The series comprises 8 denominations (2 and 1 Euro, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2, 1 Euro-cent) with the technical features required on the reverse, identical for all countries that participate in the European single currency. On the obverse of all coins is depicted the shield of Pope Francis, the inscription “Città del Vaticano” and twelve stars. Engravers: U. Pernazza (1 Eurocent) - M.A. Cassol (2 Eurocent) - L. De Simoni (5 Eurocent) - M.G. Urbani (10 Eurocent) - S. Petrassi (20 Eurocent) - E.L. Frapiccini (50 Eurocent) - M.C. Colaneri (1 Euro) - C. Momoni (2 Euro)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The new Vatican divisionary series, the first of Pope Leone XIV’s pontificate, is directly inspired by the pontiff’s shield, reproduced on the cover with a “plaster” effect and embossed on an ivory background, while a deep blue characterizes the inscriptions and salient graphic elements, recalling the colors of the two heraldic fields of the Holy See’s shield. The same color pairing will later appear, even more prominently, in the new packaging line that will accompany future numismatic emissions. Not a mere aesthetic choice, therefore, but a true homage and a direct reference to the new pontificate. The coins housed inside feature an unprecedented alternation between the pope’s effigy and the papal shield: the effigy appears on the larger denominations, the shield on the smaller ones, in a graphic design never seen before in the history of Vatican divisionaries. The 2 euro coin also contains the distinctive elements of Leone’s shield: the lily, symbol of purity and Marian devotion, and the burning heart pierced by an arrow above an open book, emblem of Augustinian spirituality and the power of God’s Word capable of transforming the human heart. Artist and sculptor: Daniela Longo; Engravers: 2 euro: Emanuele Ferretti 1 euro: Marta Bonifacio 50 eurocent: Antonio Vecchio 20 eurocent: Silvia Petrassi 10 eurocent: Annalisa Masini 5 eurocent: Valerio de Seta 2 eurocent: Emanuele Ferretti 1 eurocent: Antonio Vecchio
