Art Deco Paradijsvogel vase, model 0921, in earthenware by Boch Frères Keramis (Belgium), in excellent condition with minimal signs of use; measures 11 cm wide, 11 cm deep and 25 cm high.
Description from the seller
Art Deco "Bird-of-Paradise" Vase with Ears (Model 0921) – Boch Frères Keramis, c. 1925
A characteristic Art Deco ceramic vase with two gilded ears, manufactured by the renowned Belgian earthenware factory Boch Frères Keramis in La Louvière. This vase dates from the heyday of the workshop, circa 1925.
This object is a textbook example of Belgian interwar design. It shows the typical Art Deco features through the strongly stylized, elongate forms of nature (flowers and leaves) rather than the flowing lines of the earlier Art Nouveau.
Additionally, the decoration reflects the then-popular Orientalist and exotic influences, beautifully translated into a detailed depiction of a bird of paradise (or phoenix).
The depiction is executed in deep cobalt blue and richly finished with hand-painted gold accents (gold relief), which give the piece its luxurious appearance. Particularly striking is the background, featuring a characteristic stippled or speckled turquoise/light blue glaze that gives the vase a splendid depth and marble-like texture. The underside bears the original blue factory stamp and the impressed model number 0921.
This lot is packed with the utmost care and in highly secure professional packing materials. Shipping to the winning bidder is always fully insured and with a Track & Trace code, so you can track the shipment precisely.
