A silver obol from Tenedos (Islands off Troas) dated 450–387 BC, weighing 0.49 g and 9 mm, with an obverse showing a janiform Hera left and Zeus right, and a reverse featuring Τ-Ε with a double axe inside a linear square within an incuse square.

Obol (Silver, 9 mm, 0.49 g).
Obv: Janiform head of Hera on the left and Zeus on the right.
Rev: Τ-Ε. Double axe within linear square within incuse square.
Reference: SNG Copenhagen 509. SNG von Aulock 1587.
Tenedos, a strategically located island near the Hellespont, controlled routes between the Aegean and Black Sea and served as an important naval and commercial center. Its coinage features a distinctive janiform head, possibly linked to divine twins or a local dual cult, and a double axe associated with religious or civic authority. The island’s fortunes shifted amid conflicts involving Athens, Persia, and the Hellenistic kingdoms.
