Set of 6 Russian Imperial silver 84 zolotniki salt cellars/caviar stands by Khlebnikov – Moscow, 1896
Rare coordinated set of six Russian salt cellars in 84 zolotniki silver (875/1000), dated 1896, from the Russian Imperial era.
Due to their size, shape and gilded interior, these small vessels could be used as individual salt cellars or for presenting caviar and other condiments. In the absence of the original accessories, the specific function cannot be determined with absolute certainty.”
Four pieces bear on the base the Cyrillic mark ХЛЕБНИКОВЪ (Khlebnikov) surmounted by the Imperial eagle, together with the 84 hallmark and assay marks with date 1896.
The Ivan Khlebnikov manufactory was one of the most important silverware houses of the Russian Empire and a supplier to the Imperial Court.
The other two salt cellars, perfectly coordinated in form, size and decoration, bear the 84 title, the date 1896 and a different silversmith’s mark.
Of particular interest is the uniformity of the set: all six feature the same elegant bulbous shape, three spherical feet, a flared upper rim and the same monogram engraved on the front, indicating they belong to the same table service.
The interiors retain gilding, with normal signs of use compatible with the age.

Conditions
