Antique Gothic Revival hanging lamp / church lamp with blue cabochons
Very detailed antique devotional lamp (church lamp) in Gothic Revival/Neo-Romanesque style, dating from the 19th century.
This atmospheric religious object is made of heavy yellow brass (messing) or bronze and is in a beautiful, original condition.
The lamp features around it beautiful openwork casting with floral motifs and inlaid with six dark blue glass cabochons (stones).
In church tradition these blue stones carry a strong symbolic meaning: they mimic the precious sapphire and symbolize the heavenly realm, divine truth, and the Virgin Mary.
When the candles burn, these blue elements glow beautifully.
On the outer ring are 6 graceful candle holders with leaf-shaped drip pans.
The lamp is 100 cm tall and 40 cm wide.
The lamp is in good, complete condition.
