Original edition of the monograph “Collecting African Art in Liberia and Neighboring Countries 1963-1989” by Mario Meneghini, published by Nicolini Editore in Italy, from a private collection, dating to 2000-2010 and described in mint condition.
Description from the seller
This exceptional reference work, entitled "Collecting African Art in Liberia and Neighboring Countries 1963-1989" by Mario Meneghini (published by Nicolini Editore), forms an indispensable cornerstone for the serious library of West African tribal art and ethnography. The work offers in-depth art-historical analyses, field photographs, and detailed documentation that are crucial for contextualizing, determining, and appraising the fine-grained material culture of the region. In scholarly literature and leading auction catalogs from renowned houses (such as Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and Bonhams), this particular standard work is frequently employed as a guiding reference (cross-reference) for attributing museum highlights, especially from Liberia, Guinea, and Ivory Coast.
Meneghini conducted decades of intensive field research in Liberia and the surrounding countries, and amassed pieces that today can be found even in the British Museum.
Condition report: Absolute 'Collectors Grade' This copy is in sublime, untouched mint condition / deadstock. Due to its age (20 years, published in 2006) and the matte, black cover type, this edition is inherently highly sensitive to signs of handling, which makes this pristine copy especially rare. The book is unopened. Pages are still glued and smell of the printer. To strictly safeguard the absolute integrity of the book’s spine and binding, the photos were taken with extreme caution at a minimal opening angle of less than 100°. No creases, no internal discolorations, and completely free of signs of use. An almost perfectly preserved copy.
This copy forms a perfect unit with other high-quality ethnographic publications in this auction. Bidders are expressly advised to also view the remaining lots in this sale; this provides a unique, rare opportunity to build up or substantially expand a specialized library in one go.
This auction features a leading collection of high-quality ethnographic publications, with a strong focus on the art and culture of Africa, Oceania, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea.
Shipping: Will be packed with extreme care and sent by registered mail with Track & Trace.
